About the Artist

L at The Hill Garden and Pergola during their travels

L Drew is a writer and filmmaker from Brooklyn, New York, who is currently located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Art has been their passion and dream since a young age. They grew up in an artistic household which allowed them to express themself with many forms of art, which later evolved into a deep passion for filmmaking and writing. L studied both at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, graduating with a BFA in film with a minor in creative writing. During their time in college, they were the author and illustrator of Design and Destroy with over 12,000 copies sold. L also participated in a study abroad program through MCAD where they spent a semester learning at the Osaka University of Arts in Japan. During their time there, L worked with several professors to help shoot their senior film:, based on the Japanese demon: the oni, that L learned about during their Japanese language course in high school.

Their narrative based work usually surrounds topics of humanity and what humans can be and do, both the good and bad. This is usually showcased through a lens of speculative fiction, in the realm of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. L finds it helpful to reflect and think through art especially with the state of the world. In their downtime, L likes to play a variety of video games, read manga, and watch films & shows, all which inspire their creativity and desire to make art. They love to work on their writing, attempting to write daily, working on their story and script ideas, as well as trying to create new concepts to develop.

L also enjoys shooting both film and photo in nature, less based on a formal narrative, but rather a documentation of the beauty of Earth itself. They find joy in exploring and traveling and they hope to continue to recording the outside world of people, architecture, animals, and other things in relation to nature and the environment around us.

They have worked independently for companies and individuals making music videos, book trailers, and other media-based projects. L also had experience working with Line Break Media as their production intern from October 2023 to May 2024. They were able to work as grip and gaff support, sound recordist, camera operator, general p.a work, and assembly cut editing for them during their time as an intern. Currently, L still freelances as a production assistant and editor alongside their current part-time job, as they hope to gain more experience within the industry.
